Joanna Coe earned one of the biggest victories of her golf career recently when she won the coveted PGA Women's Stroke Play Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St Lucie, Florida

Coe, who grew up in Mays Landing and is a 2007 Oakcrest High School graduate and now is a teaching professional at the Baltimore Country Club.

Coe shot a 76-64-74—214 to gain a one-stroke victory over Brittany Kelly, of Indianapolis.

The 29-year-old received $1,800 for the win and a spot in this year’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, one of the LPGA’s five majors, at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, on June 18-23, an event she also played in last year.

Coe put herself in contention to win after the second round, when she shot an 8-under 64 on the PGA Golf Club’s Par-72 Ryder Course. It was both a tournament record and personal best.

She followed that Tuesday with a 2-under 74 on the club’s Wannamaker Course, and that was good enough to hold off Kelly.

New Jersey’s rich golf history will be celebrated in grand fashion on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, when nine of the state’s most decorated players and impactful contributors will be inducted into the New Jersey State Golf Association Hall of Fame. The second annual Hall of Fame ceremony and reception will take place at Galloping Hill Golf Course in Kenilworth, home of the NJSGA’s headquarters.

The Class of 2019 boasts some of the Garden State’s most prominent players as well as several contributors who have made a unique and lasting impact on the game of golf. This year’s nine inductees will be Leo Fraser, Bobby Jacobson, Babe Lichardus, Joe McBride, Dorothy Porter, Jeff Thomas, Dennis Walters, Craig Wood and Billy Ziobro. “The nine individuals elected to the NJSGA Hall of Fame this year, like those in our inaugural class, have had a tremendous impact on the game of golf in New Jersey. Ron Jaworski Golf and US Sports Camps, Inc., operators of Nike Junior Golf Camps, have announced plans to offer a series of week-long, junior half day camps this summer at three Jaworski Golf properties. US Sports will support the camp operations via their marketing, customer service and other back-end services. Jaworski Golf will oversee staffing of the junior golf camps in South New Jersey, keeping the coaching style and philosophy of their respective instructors, while integrating the Nike Camp framework. Both parties hope to create more interest in the sport and provide young golfers with top-notch instruction.
