The repositioning of the annual NJSGA Boys Championship away from the William Y. Dear Junior Championship will enable young men, ages 15 and under, to participate in both championships this summer.

The 48thBoys Championship will be played on Wednesday and Thursday, June 27-28 at Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Neshanic Station at the same time as the 64thJunior Girls Championship at Neshanic Valley. The format will be 36 holes of stroke play.

The 97thJunior Championship takes place Aug. 6-8 at Raritan Valley Country Club in Bridgewater. The Junior Championship is for boys ages 18 and younger who are not in college. Previously, the boys and junior championships took place concurrently and participants were required to choose to play in one event.

“The separation of the Boys Championship from the Junior Championship allows boys ages 15 and younger an opportunity to compete in more than one event against golfers with similar abilities,” said Mike McAneny, NJSGA Tournament Director.  “We are all about providing more opportunities for golfers.

Shackamaxon Country Club has hired Brian Walter as its new Executive Chef.  Walter boasts a first-rate culinary pedigree with 20 years of success in both the private club industry and with world class restaurants.

His career launched with his first kitchen position at Shackamaxon Country Club in 1993 as a prep cook and dishwasher.  He then was hired by New Jersey’s Plainfield Country Club where he soon discovered his love for cooking.  Walter then enrolled at New York’s French Culinary Institute and was an intern for celebrated Chef Mario Batali at his original West Village New York City restaurant, “PO.”  At the age of 18, Walter earned the Chef De Partie title at the French Consulate, where he worked under then French Master Chef Luc Pasquier.

Walter went on to become Chef De Partie at two world famous New York City restaurants, Le Cirque 2000 and Lespinasse, and subsequently was named the Executive Sous Chef at Guastavino’s (also in New York) under celebrity Chef Daniel Or.  Walter spent his last year in New York City as Chef De Cuisine at the iconic Union Club.  At the age of 25, he became the Executive Chef at Acqua Ristorante in Raritan, New Jersey, which led to him becoming the Executive Chef of the Char Steakhouse Restaurant Group.
