The International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) hosted the IJGT Philly Open on Sept. 14-15. Held at the Donald Ross designed Jeffersonville Golf Club, a field of 44 players ages 10-19 took on the course over the two-day, 36 hole event. The field was represented by junior golfers from four states competing for national rankings and IJGT Merit Points.

Gary McCabe of Collegeville, Pa., won the Boys 15-19 Division, turning a one-stroke deficit to begin the final round into a four-shot victory by the end.

Entering final round of competition, the division was wide open. Quinn Dolan of Broomall, Pa., held the lead when the day began after shooting a first-round 75. Chasing him was a pack of 10 players all within five strokes.

Dolan was joined by McCabe, Matthew Bastian of Media, Pa., and Chris Binet of Oreland, Pa., in the final group for the last round. Dolan quickly realized he was not as sharp as a day prior en route to playing the first 10 holes at 11-over-par. He was not the only player in the group...

The New Jersey State Golf Association’s 30th Mid-Amateur Championship will have a new look to it – and will award a new champion.

All this takes place September 10-12 at Trump National-Bedminster’s Old Course.

The field has been expanded from 50 to 65 golfers, who on Tuesday, Sept. 10, will attempt to be among the 16 players who advance to match play on Wednesday.

That day will see a Round of 16 in the morning, followed by quarterfinals in the afternoon. On Thursday, Sept. 12, the semifinals will take place in the morning followed by the championship match in the afternoon.

Part of the new look is that the event has been moved from a springtime event to one in late summer. Last year, the event was staged at Galloway National in the first week of May.

Also, defending champion Brian Komline of Black Oak is not playing due to the impending birth of a child. When Komline, 39,  won last year, he was the first to win the NJSGA Grand Slam of State Open, State Amateur,...
